Originally built in 1892, the building was named Technological Building because it housed the School of Technology. In 1896, however, the name was changed by the Trustees to Crowell since it was a gift of President John F. Crowell in memory of his wife, who died at the time of the relocation of the college. The three story brick building with a full basement contained a drafting room, and laboratories for chemistry, physics and biology. It also housed the generator which supplied electricity for the entire campus.
