Named for the acclaimed historian, civil rights advocate and Duke History emeritus, the John Hope Franklin Center is home to a diverse consortium of Duke programs in the humanities and social sciences studying such issues as race, social equity and globalization. The building, which was built in 1942 and formerly used as a residence hall, was extensively renovated and reopened in 2000 with cutting-edge communication and media technology, classrooms and gallery space.
