A visitor and educational center designed to complement the Sarah P. Duke Gardens, the 18,000-square-foot building opened in 2001. The center, which has meeting rooms, exhibit space, greenhouses and a gift shop, is used by tour groups, school children, garden clubs, volunteers and adult evening classes. The Duke Gardens offers fifty-five acres of landscaped gardens, pine forest, terraces, a wisteria-covered pergola, a lily pond, collections of native and Asiatic plants and five miles of walkways.
